SCOIL SAMHRAIDH 2011

This was yet again another extremely successful Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan. A lively weekend was had in the town of Rush, where many sessions and events were held. The concert on Saturday night with Martin Hayes and Denis Cahill was tremendous.

The Gala Concert held on the Friday night in the Millbank Theatre was a great success. Thanks to all the musicians, dancers and singers who took part. The Theatre is alway a terrific venue to perfom in and we extend our thanks to the Committee there for once again providing us with such a lovely facility. Special thanks to Dónal Hurley, Manager of the Millbank and to our Lighting Engineer. Thanks to front-of-house and backstage staff for their great assistance. A word of appreciation to the Rinceoil Committee, who have planned and put into action all the events that happened over the weekend, without their effort and dedication, none of the success of the Scoil would have happened.

On Saturday afternoon there was a great turnout for the workshops in fiddle, bodhran, concertina, piano accordion, guitar, singing and dancing. Some of our tutors included Martin Hayes, Denis Cahill, Alan Kelly, Mary Murphy to name but a few. There was lots of lively music, singing and dancing and afterwards we were treated to some music, song and dance from these great tutors which was very well received. A great and late session followed in the Drop Inn Pub in Rush with Tumbleweed Trad Group, Rinceoil and friends and lots of visiting musicians, singers and dancers joining in during the night.
Roll on Scoil Samraidh 2012!!

SCOIL SAMRAIDH 2010
On Thursday evening, at the Opening Ceremony at Rush Sailing Club, we were honoured to have His Excellency, Mr. Pat Binns, the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland, in attendance. This was a fitting tribute to, and a clear recognition of, the links between Canada and Rush, through the emigration of Chris Langan, a local piper, to Toronto, in the 1950's.

Since our Scoil Samhraidh, we have learned that Mr. Binns has been posted to Boston. We wish him well in his new post. We welcome his successor and hope that we may have the honour of his presence in Rush in the near future.
