About Rinceoil Fingal
Rinceoil Fingal is an organisation which promotes and teaches Traditional Irish Music, Song and Dance. We are based in the small seaside village of Rush, North Co. Dublin, Ireland.
Rinceoil Fingal was founded 20 years ago by a group of people who shared a keen interest in Irish music, song and dance. Over the years it has successfully grown and the group is now extremely popular with over one hundred pupils and a further number of members, associates and musicians.
The aim of Rinceoil Fingal is to teach, encourage and perform Irish music, song and dance for all age groups. Music is taught through classes held in Rush, North County Dublin, Ireland. Pupils and members are drawn from Rush, Skerries, Swords, Malahide and many other areas. The classes are conducted on Tuesday nights each week. In addition there are band practices and additional rehearsals for performances and concerts. The Group also get together for an informal seisiún on Tuesday night, when classes are over.
Currently, we provide classes in tinwhistle, fiddle, bodhrán, and piano accordion.
Highlights
International Events
The Band have performed internationally over the years in Scotland, France and Belgium. In 2005 we had a very special trip to Toronto, Canada, where we performed at several venues, to large audiences.
Recording
Prior to our trip to Toronto, and in honour of Chris Langan, Rinceoil Fingal recorded a CD entitled "From Rush to Toronto 2005". It was great fun to make and a great experience for all involved. We completed the recording our 2nd CD, "Rush Potatoes", and launched it on Wed, 15th July at Fingal Co. Co. Offices, Swords. An exceptionally large crowd attended and enjoyed an evening of music and chat!!
National Events
Another great highlight for Rinceoil was being involved in providing entertainment in the 'Delegation Welcome Centre' at the Great Southern Airport Hotel, Dublin and at the RDS in Dublin for the athletes and coaches from various countries who were in Ireland to take part in the the Special Olympics in 2003.In August 2006 being selected to perform on two outdoor concerts at the Inaurgural World Fleadh held in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry, Ireland to large audience was another great achievement for the Band.
Local Events
In the seaside town of Rush each June, Rinceoil holds Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan in honour of the Rush piper Chris Langan. This involves 4 days of music, song and dance - with workshops in various instruments and dance, concerts, seisiúin, céilithe, dancing at the crossroads of Rush and lots more. It is an extremely popular event and each year is growing in strength attracting musicians worldwide. Chris - a local piper from Rush, in North County Dublin, Ireland - emigrated to Toronto in the 1950s and carried the tradition with him. Since his passing in 1992 a similar festival is held annually in Toronto to honour his musical legacy. Rinceoil have established strong links with our counterparts in Toronto. This year's Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan took place from 24th to 27th June 2010.
We also perform regularly at venues such as the Skerries Mills, and this is a great opportunity for our learning musicians to test out their performing skills in the comfort of an informal setting.
